The price of leadership
Everything is this world has a price. To eat you must pay. To go from one place to the other, you also need to pay. Life by itself is all about prices. There is a lot at stake but at what cost? Since everything has a price, even leadership has a price. There is a price that everyone who is a leader pays, one way or the other.
So one must pay the price. If there is a price that a leader pays and will pay? What is that price? How much is it? In this blog post we are looking briefly and closely AT the price of leadership. The price that is paid by the leaders in every walk of life. What is the price that must be paid by the leader? The following is the price that will be paid by each and every leader under the sun:
- Stress
Every leader will be stressed or is stressed, one way or the other. Leaders undergo tremendous stress. Leadership comes with stress. Some leaders are able to deal with the stress that comes with their leadership position or role. So a leader must develop and have stress coping mechanisms in place. The mechanism will then reduce the stress altogether or alleviate it. Stress is the number one price that leaders pay day to day.
- Loneliness
Loneliness is part of leadership. Majority of leaders are lonely. It is often lonely at the top. By lonely I do not mean they are single, all I mean is that they are sometimes on their own at the top. Why are leaders so lonely? They are lonely because they isolate themselves. The moment you isolate yourself , you will experience loneliness. At the end of the day, loneliness is the price of leadership.
- Fatigue
Fatigue is the order of the day when it comes to leadership. You will get tired from time to time. You will be tired spiritually, emotionally, physically and even mentally because leadership taxes a person a lot. Leadership demands a lot. Ask any leader you know if you don’t believe me. Leadership demands a lot and taxes a lot. If you are going to be a leader in any field or endeavor, expect fatigue from time to time. You will always feel overwhelmed and overworked. That my friend is the price of leadership.
- Criticism
As a leader, you will have to pay the price of criticism. Many leaders go through this. The trick lies in knowing how to respond to criticism. Gather all you can from criticism in terms of feedback. Receive constructive feedback from criticism and build from there. Never allow it to reach your heart. It is not that deep.
Leaders often go through criticism because they often introduce new things that people don’t know and understand at that time. What people don’t know they will ridicule. If you are going to be a leader, you are going to pay the price of criticism. You will go through criticism. That is how your work will be tested. You have to be strong and firm as criticism will be knocking on your doors. When it does, don’t give up. Keep on keeping on.
- Rejection
You will be rejected as a leader. You won’t find even one leader who has never been rejected in their position. Rejection is direction. When God wants to grow and develop you, he allows people to reject you so that you can go into your corner for the purpose of growing.
Rejection is part of life. It happens to everyone. It will happen to you more as a leader. People will reject you. People will forsake you. Rejection is a very tough season. Just like any other tough season, it will also pass away. Learn all you have to learn during the seasons of rejection and your life will never be the same again. That my friend is the price of leadership.
